Manmade features
Seoul has many, many manmade features but here are just the more famous ones.
- Gyeongbokgung Palace was a home to many royal people in the period of the Joseon Dynasty (1392 - 1910). Unfortunately, it was destroyed and abandoned for about three centuries, however, reconstructed again in 1867. A survey conducted in 2011 showed 39 percent of residents said it was the most scenic location in Seoul. (Go to Main Attractions to see a picture of the palace).
- N Seoul Tower (otherwise known as Seoul Tower or Namsan Tower), is a tower found on Namsan Mountain. It was built in 1969, but opened to the people in 1980. It is used as an observation, as well as an attraction. N Seoul Tower consists of gift shops, many restaurants and a Teddy Bear Museum. (Go to Main Attractions for more information on the Teddy Bear Museum).
- The National Museum of Korea is one of the biggest and most popular museums topping for the best in Seoul. This museum opened in 1945, coincidentally the same year Korea had won independence from Japan. More than 220,000 pieces of art are on display and divided into 3 floors.
The first floor contains all the historical works where you can look at art that dates back to 1392. The second floor is where you can find paintings and donated art from collectors. The third floor is filled with beautiful Buddhist sculptures and ceramics.

- The National Folk Museum of Korea is another one of Seoul's greatest museums. This museum is great for tourists who would like to discover more about Korea's past. Situated close to the Gyeongbokgung Palace, this museum holds more than 98,000 works and is known as "The only national museum devoted to the history of traditional life".
The museum contains 3 main exhibition halls.
The first one contains equipment from everyday life from prehistoric times to 1910. The second one makes you feel like a Korean villager from those ancient times. The third one shows the foundation of Korean culture and how it has become what it is today.
